Tunica Falls REU '05 014: Male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

I only managed one shot of this pair of males before a large group of human males came tromping by from the other direction and scared them off.

This photograph was actually taken somewhat later in the hike, but I moved it forward to be with other (what I originally thought were) female tiger swallowtail butterflies. It turns out I did find actual female tiger swallowtail butterflies much later on, which I originally mistook for something else, so now all of my butterfly pictures are scattered about this collection.

I am obviously not cut out to become a lepidopterist. At least I've been able to fix the picture titles.

I think you should tell more about the butterfly instead of how you found it beacuse some of us want to know about the habitat!!!!!

The butterfly

Alas, I am not really competent to comment on the butterfly itself. The habitat is a warm and muggy nature preserve with a stream and waterfalls running throughout, with either a sandy or a muddy bottom, and forest in the surrounding area. You can see more of the environment by looking at the other pictures in this set.

If you have specific questions, I can try to answer them.
