My objection to smoking isn't that it kills smokers; in my more irate moments, I note that this would actually be good for the gene pool if it only happened a little faster. My objection is that smokers are usually completely inconsiderate of everyone else — most smokers don't care about the harmful effects of secondary smoke, and most of them are litterers. The campus where I work, in a region where smoking is very popular, is marred by the seemingly omnipresent cigarette butts. I've seen students tossing expended cigarettes to the ground, sometimes not even bothering to stamp out the embers, even when a designated receptacle was in plain view less than twenty feet away.
One smoking litterer was recently shown that littering, as well as smoking, can be hazardous to your health when he threw a cigarette out of his window while he was driving and it blew back in and set his SUV on fire. The driver managed to narrowly escape being a Darwin Award candidate, but the SUV was burned down to the frame.
Ah, yes. Smoker, litterer, SUV owner... sometimes there is some random justice in this world.
