Scene: An elf with long, elegant fingers and colorful clothing is finishing writing something. Voiceover as he writes the last letters and puts away his pen: "I hope this helps her remember the rules. She seemed to be having so much trouble." The camera zooms in on the desk as he gets up, focusing on a bit of cardstock with calligraphic printing, which reads:
1) DON'T ATTACK ANYTHING. Attacking things only draws attention to yourself, and even small rabbits and insects are likely to be able to kill you in this part of the world.
2) If you must break rule 1, ATTACK FROM FAR AWAY -- this doesn't always help, since some things can attack back from far away too, but it greatly reduces your chance of being immediately swatted.
3) DISTANCE IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS COVER -- being fifty meters away from your target isn't as good as being five meters away -- if at five meters away you can't be seen or at least can't be shot at because a wall is in the way.
4) KNOW WHEN TO RUN AWAY -- when in doubt, run early. If you're slow, run earlier.
5) ALWAYS PLAN YOUR EXIT -- running away won't help you if you keep running the *wrong* way. Buy maps, and spend time memorizing them.
6) ALWAYS PLAN YOUR EXIT, TWICE -- escape routes have a nasty tendency to get cut off at the worst time, so be sure to have a backup plan.
7) STAY WELL SUPPLIED -- healing gear, wands of invisibility, anything that makes you harder to kill or harder to chase is a necessity any time you go near a fight. Since this can sometimes happen without warning, keeping a moderate supply on hand at all times is important.
