New British campaign television advertisements are out, and they're absolutely hilarious. (Okay, they might not be as funny if you're actually British and have to worry about the results of the election.) Watching US politics has taught me that political advertisements are generally pretty well detached from reality and lack any information whatsoever that might be useful in making a rational decision, and the British counterparts are no exception, but the production quality is higher than what you usually see in the US, and they are all highly entertaining. Well, in the case of the Conservative's ad, unintentionally entertaining, I suspect, but still entertaining.
Kevin Drum has an amusing summary as well:
Labour: Sure, we kind of suck. Totally understandable you feel that way. But Christ, just look at the Conservatives. If you vote for them, they'll make you wish you'd never been born.Conservatives: Britain has become a hellhole. A hellhole with oddly soothing music to go along with it, but a hellhole nonetheless. However, if you vote for us things might become a bit less hellish.
Liberal Democrats: Oh face it: both Labour and the Conservatives are a bunch of twits. Might as well give us a try, don't you think?
